Our gorilla lady Bagira had a male baby on 8 December 2009. The pregnancy was approximately 245 days long and the birth uncomplicated. At 25 years, Bagira is an experienced mother and cares extremely well for this, her 6th baby. Brother and sister Sadiki and Makena haven’t been able to play with her yet as she prefers to stay close to her mother.

This is the father Roututu’s 15^th offspring and he is experienced at playing down the whole matter. “Aunties” Neema (23 years old), Ellen (43 years old) and Sonja (21 years old) have not been allowed a look in yet – Bagira is keeping them at a distance. After approximately 3 months they will be able to take on their auntie role and help look after the little one when it starts to take its first steps through the gorilla enclosure.

The company JK Wohnbau has adopted the baby gorilla and named it Kajolu.
